Work Permits

The work permit is a document upon which a domestic or foreign employer enters into a contract of employment or work with a foreigner.
The work permit is issued as:

  • Personal work permit
  • Employment permit upon application of employer and
  • Work permit

Work permits are issued for different time periods depending on the purpose for which it was issued. A foreigner may be issued only one type permit at a certain period of time. Issuance of work permits, renewal of work permits, revocation of work permits and procedures for issuing certificates are implemented by the Employment Agency of Macedonia. The request for issuing a work permit shall be submitted to the diplomatic consular representative of the Republic abroad, in the state of one’s citizenship or the state where one currently resides.

Issuing work permits for scientific research

There are bilateral agreements between certain institutions performing scientific research. The Macedonian Academy of Arts and Sciences has concluded 35 agreements with academies of sciences of other countries.

The Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts collaborates with a number of other Academies: the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the Royal Society of London, the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Australian Academy of Social Sciences, the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, the British Academy, the National Academy of Science of Belaruss, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences,  the Estonian Academy of Sciences, the Romanian Academy, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Albanian Academy of Sciences, the Flemish Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Turkish Academy of Sciences, etc.

The agreements on inter-academy scientific and scholarly collaboration which have been made encompass co-operation on the level of joint research projects, participation in scientific and scholarly conferences and symposia and artistic events and presentations, study visits, and an exchange of scholarly and scientific experience, publications and other information.

The Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts collaborates with the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg, is a full member of the Association of European Academies (ALLEA), the Union Académique Internationale, the Academy of the Mediterranean, International Concil of Science Unions (ICSU), the Inter-Academy Panel on International Issues (IAP), the Central and Eastern European Network (CEEN).

The Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts is in communication with and carries out exchanges of experience on various issues of common interest with other academies as well as with those with which it has agreements on scientific and scholarly co-operation.
